Las Vegas Spring Preserve Offers New Place to Visit with Family
The Las Vegas Spring Preserve provides an experience the entire family can enjoy the entire year, including walking/hiking trails, botanical gardens, indoor exhibits and even an arcade for the kids. Included in the Preserve are four uniquely themed trails bordering the cienega that serves as a peaceful home for hundreds of native plants, birds and various animal species. The trails cover more than 1.8 miles of hiking and walking ground.
The botanical gardens cover 8 acres of land and include plants that are both native and non-native to the desert. The gardens include hands-on activities, including the Frame House that seats 70 to view outdoor cooking demonstrations, and the Tool Shed Theater for children. The garden also caters to those who have physical challenges in the Enabling Garden.
Las Vegas Spring Preserve - Indoor Activities
The Spring Preserve also provides indoor activities to avoid the Las Vegas summer heat. The ORIGEN Experience explores the early history of Las Vegas through 75 exhibits, a theater, three galleries and a traveling exhibit space. The ORIGEN Experience features live animal exhibits that are native to the springs, history on the people who have relied on the springs for survival, and special exhibits that rotate so visitors encounter different experiences at the preserve each time they visit.
Another part of the ORIGEN Experience is The New Frontier, which provides children with a fun way of learning. The New Frontier includes an arcade that promotes history through games that highlight early Las Vegas culture. Other activities include game shows, multi-player games, and an interactive multi-media attraction.
The Las Vegas Spring Preserve is located at 333 S. Valley View Blvd. between U.S. 95 and Alta Drive. For more information call (702) 822-7700. Admission to the trails and botanical gardens are free; they both open at 10 a.m. and close at dusk. Other attractions offer discounts to Nevada residents, students, seniors and children, and hours vary throughout the year. Children under 5 are admitted for free.
